How To Get Rid Of Uneven Skin Tone

What Is Uneven Skin Tone?

Uneven skin tone is quite common especially in Black and Asian skin - it is also known as hyperpigmentation. Uneven skin tone may appear as darker patches on your face or around your mouth.  This could also occur anywhere on the body.  Uneven skin tone will appear as dark patches different to your normal skin tone.

In most cases, uneven skin tone or hyperpigmentation isn’t harmful or painful but we here at DW Aesthetics understand it can affect self-esteem and confidence and we’re all about feeling confident in our own skin, that’s why we have compiled a list of causes of uneven skin tone and how to prevent it further.

Uneven Skin Tone Causes

Determining the exact cause of uneven skin tone can be difficult and will require an examination from a qualified dermatologist. Signs and symptoms of uneven skin as mentioned earlier can be harmless and slightly noticeable to the more obvious and harmless cases. Over the years dermatologist experts have outlined the common causes of uneven skin tone.
  • Inflammatory diseases such as; acne
  • Allergies
  • Sun damage
  • Harmful skincare ingredients
  • Pregnancy
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity
  • Ageing
  • Tobacco smoking

How To Get Rid Of Uneven Body Skin Tone

Regular Exfoliation

We recommend exfoliating your skin 1-2 times a week - don’t over-exfoliate as you may damage your skin and remove too much of the natural oil your skin produces. Exfoliating helps with uneven skin tone, as it helps speed the process of removing dead skin cells, revealing a much brighter and smooth skin as the top layer of your skin is mostly made up of dead skin cells and excess oil.

Our Facial Cleansing Sponges are ideal for exfoliation as they are soft and gentle, helping you cleanse and exfoliate your skin. They go well with our Exfoliate Body Polish. It is ideal for all skin types who have uneven skin tone. Enriched with a triple acid combo to revitalise and sweep away dry, dull skin. Exfoliates to clear pores, lift impurities and balance uneven skin tone. Leaving you with skin that feels nourished, soft and looks radiant.

Use the Exfoliate Body Polish 1-2 times a week. Apply to damp skin and leave for 5-15 minutes, massage using firm circular movements focusing on your dry areas. Rinse away with warm water. Follow with your favourite body oil or moisturiser.

Facial and Body Peels

Facial and body peels help exfoliate and rejuvenate the skin by removing dead skin cells and stimulating the growth of new cells and helping to improve the appearance of the skin and reduce uneven skin tone. At DW Aesthetics, we offer a variety of peels. Our Reveal Facial Peel is ideal for uneven skin tone on the face. Powered by Glycolic and Salicylic Acid which help improve and smooth the texture of your skin resulting in a brighter appearance.

Glycolic Acid

Look out for products that contain glycolic acid. Glycolic acid is an exfoliant that sheds dead skin cells, refines skin texture and reduces uneven skin tone. It does this by breaking the proteins which act as a glue that binds the skin cells together and helps increase the production of collagen. Our Deep Cleansing Gel which contains Glycolic acid, is a deep cleansing formula which contains Glycolic acid, that thoroughly removes excess oil, surface impurities and make-up. It helps to exfoliate the dead cells thanks to Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids and natural enzymes.

Vitamin C

Investing in a vitamin C serum is a no brainer! Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps lighten hyperpigmentation, dark spots and uneven skin tone. You tend to find vitamin C in foods such as; oranges, guava, strawberries and kiwis. However, we understand sometimes it is hard to consume the right amount of vitamin C from our foods. Our Vitamin C Glow Serum looks to solve that issue. Containing 15% vitamin C, it is perfect for improving the look of uneven skin tone, refining skin texture and also reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Cleanse Everyday

We all should have a cleansing routine, if not then we can’t emphasise enough the importance of using cleansers. Cleansers help remove dead skin cells from your skin and any impurities, makeup residue and excess oils you may have on your face. Uneven skin tone can occur due to a build-up of dead skin cells clogging up your pores which can lead to breakouts. Our Gentle Facial Cleanser helps dissolve dry and dehydrated layers from the skin, whilst assisting in promoting smooth skin and in achieving a more even skin tone.

Sunscreen

It cannot be stressed enough the importance of wearing sunscreen every day. Wearing sunscreen helps protect you from sunlight, as sunlight trigger uneven skin and dark spots. In order to keep uneven skin, hyperpigmentation, melasma and dark spots at bay, dermatologists recommend using a broad-spectrum sunscreen at times during the year - doesn’t matter the weather, to help protect your skin from sun damage.
